OSHNED
All over the Netherlands, researchers and students are building their own instruments: microscopes, sensors, lab robots, batteries. Most of it is brilliant, and most of it is also invisible. OSHNED, the Open Source Hardware Infrastructure for the Netherlands, brings these designs together in a single national network, so that no one has to reinvent what already exists. At our booth, researchers from the affiliated universities (TU/e, TU Delft, WUR, UU, Radboud UMC, and VU) show what they share: an open source redox flow battery, laboratory equipment made from 3D printer parts, or an electronics kit with which students learn to program. Everything is open, and all documentation is available online.
Representative makers from the OSHNED Universities
OSHNED is supported by makers who build open-source hardware themselves and encourage researchers within universities to share their inventions publicly. The project has just started, but stands on a solid foundation: the Netherlands already has an active open hardware community.
