Schwibboge, Ore Mountains tradition
In the Ore Mountains in Germany, miners hung their lights around the mine entrance on Christmas Eve. Heho, the job done, safely out of the mine. This became Christmas tradition: forged or wooden arches were put in the window frames. Complimented by Nussknacker, protective figures who were supposed to ensure good luck. They knew very well what they had to beg for good luck, these were hard times. Create your own Schwibboge and draw in it what makes you think: pooh, I could use some luck.

Wout Zweers, designer, spent 4 weeks in Chemnitz and Lossnitz as a designer in residence for the Makers United program. He aimed to develop together with people from Lossnitz and Chemnitz something about light. Because light means warmth and has a deeply felt symbolic meaning. He also already worked on lamps with LED light and explored the opportunities how to make these safely and simply. He is a stage designer and likes to make precise wooden kits. This came together in the Schwibbogen. He noticed that these could be interpreted as tiny stages and were used to tell stories of what concerns the people who make them.
